Around Mt. Hood Republican Women |
Mt. Hood Republican Women, (MHRW) received its charter in 1979 under the leadership of Nita Clifton. As a subsidiary of the National Federation of Republican Women and the Oregon Federation of Republican Women, each MHRW member in good standing is also a member of those two clubs. MHRW was organized to give women on the east side of the Willamette River a place to come together with like-minded community members to meet socially, outside of the legislature and formal political events. The mission of MHRW is to promote the principles, objectives, and policies of the Republican Party by investing in our communities through programs supporting our values and to recruit and elect Republicans to public office. MHRW is committed to encouraging Republican women to be involved in our local, state, and our national government.
Oregon Federation Of Republican Women
On May 28, 1940, Marion Martin, Executive Director of the National Federation of Republican Women, announced that the application of the Oregon Chapter of Pro America to become a member of the National Federation of Republican Women had been approved. Wilma Bishop was State President at that time. Oregon held dual membership in both national organizations (Pro America and the National Federation of Women's Republican Clubs) and maintained a state office in the old Oregon Building in Portland.
In February of 1948, the Oregon Chapter of Pro America filed Supplemental Articles of Incorporation with the State of Oregon changing its name to the Republican Women's Federation of Oregon. In April of 1963, by vote of the governing body, the organization name was again changed to the current Oregon Federation of Republican Women (OFRW). Today the OFRW consists of four districts and sixteen clubs of civic minded and politically active Oregon women. |
National Federation of Republican Women
Founded in 1938, the National Federation of Republican Women is the largest grassroots Republican women's organization in the country with tens of thousands of active members in local clubs across the nation.
Building leaders, energizing communities and keeping America strong, the NFRW empowers women from all backgrounds in the political process and provides a forum for women to serve as leaders in the political, governmental, and civic arenas. |
